The minor invites students to engage with the plays and poems of William Shakespeare, one of the foundational figures of English literary study, from a range of textual, historical, and critical perspectives. Students who complete the minor will have developed tools of critical analysis and written expression through an exploration not only of Shakespeare’s works, but also of the broader literary culture in which he wrote and in which his works have subsequently been received and adapted.

The minor is designed to be accessible to students across all undergraduate disciplines. Most prerequisites can be fulfilled through the general education curriculum. Courses used for the minor cannot count towards both the minor and a general English major.
